Telling the East Coast Greenway story

The East Coast Greenway began with a small group of big-picture people imagining a 3,000-mile route of protected bike and walking paths extending the length of the Eastern Seaboard. It's a tale of collaboration and shared vision, working with volunteers and officials at the local, state, regional, and national level.

And it's a story of people and communities enjoying the public health, environmental, and economic benefits of safe, popular, and easily accessed greenways. News of the exciting growth and promise of the East Coast Greenway has been shared by media outlets from The Washington Post and Esquire to Conde Nast Traveler and USA Today.

"One thing that makes the East Coast Greenway so dynamic is how much distance it covers and how many cities, towns, and communities it goes through. People can take advantage of it in so many different ways. Some might use a few miles to commute to work while others make a weekend outing with the family. Serious adventurers can bike their whole state, or even take on the entire length over the course of several weeks."

"'But the return on investment is extremely strong,' Markatos-Soriano said. 'It’s not just building more connection. It’ll relieve gridlock from busy roads, bring more enjoyment and health to people’s lives, enhance tourism and increase property values.'"
